Abstract

This paper addresses the contradictory trends in economic development programmes that are merging up the rich and poor countries of the world today into one global village. The development trends of the developed world appear to be top-down. Compared to the trends in the developing world, where the rural community dominates, development plans and strategies are down-top and sometimes these have been described by the developed countries as being traditional and backward. Taking cognizance of this irony, this paper examines globalization with the view to pave ways for identification of new solutions for the development of the third world.
